During the Consortium Meeting held in Ancona, we had two days of intensive work. The trials for testing the usability and acceptability of Recovery Fun system have officially started at three facilities: IRCCS INRCA in Italy, Trainm in Belgium, and Zurzach Care in Switzerland.
Recovery Fun is an innovative home tele-rehabilitation solution, designed to be personalized and remotely supervised by healthcare professionals. The proposed exergames follow the plan [MR1] created by specialized physiotherapists. A wearable sensor collects real-time data, allowing continuous monitoring of the patient’s condition and optimization of the rehabilitation plan.
The trial involves patients over 60 who, within a year of an acute event causing upper limb hemiplegia, have already completed intensive hospital rehabilitation. This project enables them to maintain the benefits of intensive rehabilitation from the comfort of their home, with the constant support of a professional.
The consortium’s technical partners, HSLU, Tech4Care, Unmached, and Canary Tech, closely monitor the Recovery Fun system, resolving any issues and collaborating with healthcare professionals and caregivers.
During the visit to the rehabilitation labs of the Ancona hospital, we explored how the use of advanced technological machinery for rehabilitation personalizes treatments enables to monitor progress in real-time and significantly enhances the effectiveness of treatment, offering patients a greater chance of functional recovery and improved quality of life.
Upper limb tele-rehabilitation with virtual reality headsets represents a significant innovation, offering greater motivation, personalized exercises, and detailed progress monitoring. Despite challenges such as professional training, patient acceptance, and cost management, the potential to improve patients’ quality of life is high. This technology has the potentiality to become a crucial resource for the future of rehabilitation.
